Week 69 (Week 23 Back in Brazil!)

 

Exchanges with Elder Almeida

Wow, what a wonderful week full of miracles it has been! Unfortunately, I don't have too much time today to share with you all of all the miracles that happened, but I'll try my best to include the best part of the week here!

Service Project!

Although we weren't able to have any baptisms this week, we did re-mark our friends Mayara and Patricia to be baptized this Sunday, as well as another young boy named Mauricio. We had already been teaching his parents, a Venezuelan couple who speak a little Portuguese, and then invited the whole family to be baptized. The parents still have to be married first, but their son accepted the challenge to be baptized this Sunday as well. But I have faith that this week we can help these wonderful souls enter the waters of baptism.

We also had in-person exchanges this week, for the first time in 6-7 months. It was super wonderful to spend the day with Elder Almeida, and learn from the way he teaches. I was actually amazed by the strong spirit this elder carried with him during the day, and made it my goal to pray specifically for that same spiritual power, not for my own gain, but to help others. With Elder Almeida, we visited for the second time an inactive member named Geraldo, who was baptized about 10 years ago, but left the church shortly after. He wanted to turn his life around, and let me tell you, the change in his face and eyes is so apparent, even in the short few days that we began to teach him. It's such a blessing to see the changing and healing power of the atonement in the lives of God's children. I have a strong testimony that anyone who comes unto Christ with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, willing and wanting to change, can be healed and molded into something greater, according to the merits of Jesus Christ.

Wow, this week has been crazy!! For those of you who don't know, for the last 6 weeks I have been in training at the missionary training center in Provo, Utah, learning both how to speak Portuguese, and also learning how to teach others, and be an effective missionary. To be honest, it has been a ton of work, and I have been itching to leave for a while this week, that I might be able to go out and truly serve.  However, I am so grateful for all the experiences I have had here.  I have learned so much and have changed greatly.  I can honestly say that I'm not the same person I was when I came here just 6 weeks ago, and that makes me all the more excited to see how the Lord will change and shape me and my life over these next 2 years. Week 89 (Week 43 Back in Brazil!)

  My last district council with the best district in the world! It's so crazy to believe that I only have one more week in the mission field, but it's becoming more and more real every day. This week was miraculous, and the following week I know will be insane and surreal! Tuesday morning our poor companion, Elder Ceron, woke up with a terrible headache, and ended up throwing up several times throughout the day. The next day, he still wasn't feeling well, so we went to the hospital to see what was up, and they gave him some medicine that fixed him right up. It's interesting to see how differently everyone handles sickness. I feel like as a child, even with high fevers and many other symptoms, I typically just took common medicine and waited it out. But luckily, on Wednesday, we were able to get back to work, and had a wonderful night.  Cleaning time! This week we also were preparing our friends Denise and Beatriz to be baptized on Sunday. Week 16 (Coming Home)

This week has been a long and CRAZY week! I am not able to write my usual email this week, due to Sãn Paulo being in somewhat of a lockdown, similar to what you all are experiencing at home. Because of this, the internet cafes are closed, which is where we go to get internet access each Monday. So, my mother asked me for a timeline of events that have led up to the crazy news that we just found out, which is that all missionaries that are not Brazil citizens are being sent to their home country. Everything has happened SO fast, as you can see from the following timeline: Thursday, March 12th - Church announces that church meetings worldwide will be suspended until further notice due to Covid-19 virus. Brazil only had around 75 cases of the virus at that time. Wednesday/Thursday this week (March 18th or 19th) - missionaries were told to avoid coming in contact with the elderly and anyone else who might be more susceptible to illness.
