My keyboard that I'll have to leave behind! "Elder Lightheart, how would you feel about returning to your original assignment on Febuary 11th-12th?". "President Heap, that sounds great to me!". This conversation happened two days ago over the phone with my mission president. Looks like I'm going to be returning to my original assignment of the São Paulo Leste, Brazil mission in about 3 weeks!! It was honestly really sudden, and way sooner than I expected, but I am super excited to be heading back. However, I will miss this mission very much and all the people I have met.  This week in South Haven, we certainly saw some miracles! Maybe not the crazy kind of miracles you hear about, someone being super prepared to receive the gospel, or instantly desirous to be baptized, but miracles to us. For one, Elder Kofford and I had 58 new "contacts" or conversations with people on Facebook this week. That number may mean nothing to you, but to us, that'...

Me and my new companion, Elder Kofford Hello everyone! This was a big week full of huge changes, and boy has it been an adventure. On Tuesday, I said goodbye to Bad Axe and drove down to Mount Pleasant with Elder Bradford to then get on a van with a bunch of other missionaries. The van was about an hour behind schedule so we were all waiting for a while at the church building. At one point someone found a bat in the church building, just chilling on the wall. we weren't sure at first if it was real or fake, but it turned out to be real. After the hour passed the van pulled up and me and a couple of other elders from my district got in the van and drove down to the mission office in Lansing. I was honestly a little scared since I knew nothing about where we would be living, or how we would get there, but luckily, with some asking around, I figured things out. Last pic with Elder Bradford Transfers! (See if you can spot me.) We got the keys to our Malibu, packed our stuff in, and t...

One last trip to the Beach with Elder Bradford Hello again everyone! Man has this been a crazy week. As you may or may not know, since I arrived in Michigan, I have been serving in Bad Axe, and have been here for about 6 months. Well, I'm finally heading out to a new area! I found out on Saturday that I will be transferring over southwest to a town called South Haven. From the pictures I saw it looks really cool, and is directly on the coast! I figured when I got transferred that I would be landlocked, but I'm once again stationed on the coast, this time on the West Coast of Michigan. That means I'll see the other great lake, Lake Michigan. My new companion will be Elder Kofford who came in with Elder Bradford's group of missionaries, so he's still a pretty new missionary.  I'm excited for Elder Bradford though! He is staying in Bad Axe and, not only did we set one of our friends, Stacy, for a baptismal date last week, but our friend Ben also accepted to be ba...

District Council   Happy New Year everybody!!! Can you believe it's 2021?! It's going to take some getting used to, as I think we have all used the word "2020" more than we have ever used a year before. It's been so eventful after all. This has been quite an amazing week! We invited our dear friend Stacy to be baptized a few days ago, and she accepted! We set a date for February 20th and we are so excited for her!!! It's very likely that I will be leaving Bad Axe in about a week at the end of this transfer, so I won't be there for the baptism, but its still super exciting!! We also had a fun New Years Eve! We bought some Martinellis and played some Chess and Chinese Checkers. We also ate lots of chips and sweets (as we still have lots of sweets). It was a little uneventful of a New Years Eve, but that's totally okay. Immediately after New Years we have begun to set mission-wide and zone-wide goals, which is super exciting.  This P-day was super fun a...

Sledding on our white Christmas! Merry Belated Christmas everyone! Boy was it a fun and crazy week, full of fun, presents, and lots of snow.  At the start of this week we had our zone conference for the transfer which was super fun! It began with a video a missionary made of a collage of photos missionaries sent in from their missions, both in the MLM and other original assignments. The opening scene was a rendition of the Marvel movie opening, with the Avengers theme in the background. It was sooooo well done, I was blown away. It was super cool too because I sent in several photos and I think all of them were used. They did a super good job of including everyone, which was amazing. Then, at the end of the conference we had a little white elephant gift exchange in our zone, which was super fun. I ended up with a giant slinky, a stretch armstrong toy and some candy. My comp got some penguin slippers and a super long elf hat. I think the funniest present there was a little cheetah f...

Our 4-foot Christmas tree 😀 Merry Christmas everyone!!! I can't believe it's finally that time of the year, full of love, nativities, gifts and fun. Even away from home, it still feels like the Christmas I know and love, and for that I am extremely grateful. One thing this week that has made our Christmas just that much more special was thanks to our Secret Santa. On Tuesday night we heard a knock at our door, and upon opening the door we found a big box of gifts, and heard the front door to our apartment building close. We ran to the window to try and catch the culprit, but they were already long gone. They got us 12 gifts for the last 12 days of Christmas and prefaced them with some poetry. It was so sweet, and brightened our week as we opened the gifts each day. We have some suspicions of who it might have been, but no solid conclusions yet. But nonetheless we are very thankful. Festive socks from secret Santa. We also have been gathering some gifts from our members for o...

Week 38 (Week 21 in Michigan)

Happy Holidays everyone!! This week in our mission we had what has been called our "sprint week". Our goal was to invite as many people to, learn about the gospel, read the Book of Mormon, and go to church, and also to invite our members to have lessons with us. It's always fun to have a mission-wide goal or focus to motivate us, and it made our week much more fun. It came to the second to last day of our week, Saturday, and we were hardly halfway to our goals. President Heap, our mission President in the morning over Zoom shared a clip from the movie "Remember the Titans" and invited us to make that Saturday a day to remember. Well in our district alone we decided to have a little competition with Ben and Jerry's as a prize. Elder Bradford and I worked really hard and so did the rest of our district. By the end of the day we all sent in our numbers, and we lost by 1 invite. Then later that night we received our mission-wide numbers, and we had doubled all o...
