Week 31 (Week 14 in Michigan)

Fun nature walk, with my new comp! A mission thus far has taught me, unlike anything else, how to handle change, and that change can and should be exciting! This week marked the start of a new transfer, and along with it some big changes. At the start of this week, we drove down to Lansing to pick up my new trainee named Elder Bradford. He's a super cool kid from Portland, Oregon, and is one of the few missionaries originally assigned to Michigan. He actually lived years ago in Eugene, which is pretty cool! Interestingly enough he's got some weird allergies. He is allergic to avocado, carrots and walnuts, and has false allergies to most fruits. Meaning he isn't actually allergic to them, but his brain thinks he is, and causes a reaction. But overall he is a great guy, and I'm sure will grow to be an amazing missionary. Meeting my new comp! The day that we picked Elder Bradford up, my old companion, Elder Seeley, told me there was a cheap piano keyboard at the Goodwill...

My Caricature :-) Hey guys! How are you all doing? Another crazy week here in Michigan has gone by! From crawlspaces, to early transfers and football, this week was quite fun! My companion Elder Christiansen is a bit of an artist, and is phenomenal at drawing caricatures of people. One of his traditions with each of his companions is to draw a caricature of them and give it to them. Well, since Elder Christiansen is completing his mission and going home in 2 days, he drew his last 2 caricatures for me and Elder Seeley. I'll attach a picture of it to this blog (actually my mom decided to place it at the top of the post), but man is it good!! I'm seriously so impressed by how accurate he can make the faces when he draws people. Like I could only dream of being able to draw that good! This week we also had tradeoffs with the Caro district, and they came down here to Bad Axe. Mainly we worked on filming a new video to post to Facebook, but midway through filming this couple pulle...

Freshly baked donuts! Another awesome week has gone by! I hope you are all doing well and were able to tune in to general conference this last weekend. This time around my week wasn't too eventful, but I'll try to include as much as I can remember regardless! This transfer we had originally heard that we wouldn't be having a zone conference, where all the elders and sisters in our zone get to meet together. However, this week we found out that we will in fact be having zone conference, as well as interviews with our mission president our last week of the transfer! As excited as we are, we are also a little nervous. So we get allotted a certain amount of miles each month that we are to try to not go over on. Well, last month we went over a little bit, which wasn't completely our fault. But this month we are almost doomed to go over. With transfers, interviews, zone conference, and the Saginaw elders taking our car the next 2 Mondays, for their district P-days, we likel...

Lake Huron Selfie! Hello again everyone! Another week has gone by, and boy has it been great!  One of the highlights of this week was meeting with our friend Ben so much. We met with him 3 times this week, twice for lessons, and a third time to eat at a pizza place called the Gathering Place. It was actually super good pizza, and they had a sale that night, so it was perfect. Unfortunately, Ben had to work on Sunday this week and couldn't come to church, but we talked to him about General Conference next week and he is planning on watching at least some of the sessions.  Pizza with Ben! While walking around the other day we ran into a type of worship service out on the street, in front of the courthouse. We stayed for a little bit while everyone sang songs, and the head person prayed for us missionaries. A guy we had met quite a while ago named Alen was there, and so we got to catch up with him a little bit. After the service was over, we walked with Alen, and he invite...

Port Austin fun! Hello again y'all! This week has been wonderful! I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Earlier this week we went over to Sister Pedinger's house again to do some more service. It started with merely clearing out some stuff to set up some pallets for firewood during the winter, and then after a little while, we started pruning trees with any tool we could find. She had 3 clippers, and a saw, but we had to improvise with a huge dull axe (a bad axe 😆) and a rake for the rest since there were 6 of us. Let's just say, it was hard work, but super fun. We worked for about 3 hours and pruned back all that she needed. Although, we didn't have time to help take care of the brush on the ground. Service time. After service, we rushed back home, showered, and got dressed, in order to head to a lesson. This time with our miracle friend Ben, who came to church last Sunday. He's quite the interesting guy! In his apartment, he had a Lord of the Rings R...

Welcoming Elder Seeley to Bad Axe! Yet another week gone by and the start of a brand new transfer! On Tuesday we picked up our new companion, Elder Seeley, who was also originally called to serve in Brazil, and was there for about 6 months before Covid-19 hit. He is a really cool guy and is helping me to learn more Portuguese as well! Even Elder Christiansen, my other companion, downloaded Duolingo and wants to learn the basics so he can come home and mess with his family. As for the Elders down the street, Elder Earle left and Elder Huntsman picked up Elder Sherman, and a couple days later Elder Corry, who is a brand new missionary! Elder Sherman himself is 6'3, so a pretty tall guy, but Elder Corry is 6'7! He's as tall as our mission president, President Heap. But now we have 6 Elders living on one street and one car with 5 seats... yeah it's been interesting working out the car situation, but we are making it work! Twice this week we drove down to Sister Pedinger...

Fried potatoes, onions and beef. Yum! Hello everyone! This week has been great! With a new transfer starting, many missionaries are moving around, and we are even getting about 38 new missionaries in the next few weeks. These are exciting times for sure! For me personally, my current companion and I will be staying in Bad Axe, but we will be getting a reassigned missionary who was previously serving in Mexico. Earlier this week my companion and I decided to drive down to a town just on the borders of our area that we hadn't been to yet (or so we thought), called Sebewaing. It turned out to be about as big as Bad Axe! While walking around, we ran into two older ladies who were cleaning up a garage sale. We had a great talk with them, and they both accepted Books of Mormon. As we continued to walk down a main road in the town, we noticed a McDonalds that seemed familiar. Turns out we had driven through this town many times. Whenever we drove down for zone conference or transfers, w...
